Through my journey as a mother, especially with my son’s illness, I became increasingly concerned about the lack of transparency in the fragrance industry and the hidden chemicals in everyday products. As a result, I stopped burning candles for years. My search for a clean, safe option with a chic aesthetic I liked was long and frustrating.
As I dove deeper into the candle industry, I found that many companies advertised their products as “scented with essential oils,” yet those oils were often combined with synthetic fragrance oils—along with countless other wax and scent nuances. I even sampled a candle made with plant-derived natural fragrance, but it gave me a headache. Some brands did use only essential oils, but the aesthetic wasn’t what I was looking for.
When I couldn’t find a candle line that truly worked for us, I decided to create one myself. The result? stonelight—crafted with love on Long Island, using only the finest ingredients, hand-poured in small batches, and designed with a timeless, minimalist aesthetic.
Our candles are made with 100% soy and coconut wax—free from paraffin, additives, or fragrance oils. They are scented exclusively with pure essential oils, so you can enjoy the soothing, natural scents without worry. Even the wicks are made from unbleached cotton, ensuring a clean burn. Each candle is clearly labeled with the oils used on the inside cap, so you know exactly what you’re burning.
Why We Choose Our Ingredients:
At stonelight®, transparency is essential. We blend 100% soy and 100% coconut wax to ensure a clean, consistent burn that’s free from the potentially harmful additives you might find in pre-done blends. While most soy wax is derived from genetically modified soybeans, the process of turning soybean oil into wax—through hydrogenation and refinement—removes any detectable GMO DNA or proteins. We choose not to label our wax as “non-GMO,” since GMO-free soy wax isn’t currently available in the U.S. And although the process removes any GMO components, labeling it non-GMO felt inauthentic to us. But you can rest assured that our soy wax is refined to be as pure and clean as possible.
Beeswax, another clean-burning option, is naturally yellow or golden. To achieve the creamy white wax I desired for stonelight® candles, beeswax would have to be bleached, which I wanted to avoid. So, I turned to a blend that keeps the integrity of the clean-burning experience intact, without compromising the aesthetics.
Coconut wax, known for its luxurious, clean-burning properties, has a low melting point of around 100–110°F, which makes it challenging to ship during the warmer months. If temperatures rise above 90°F during transit, coconut wax can soften and melt to a liquid form. To make it more stable for shipping, companies must blend coconut wax with other waxes like paraffin, palm, candelilla, rice bran, or generic “vegetable wax” bases. When marketed as “pure coconut wax,” it doesn’t have to be disclosed, so unless the label clearly states 100% coconut wax, it’s safe to assume there’s something else in the mix.

For those who prefer a single-source wax experience, we’re currently working on a seasonal collection made with 100% coconut wax. This luxury line will be released seasonally—only during cooler months—so we can ship without compromising purity or quality.
